Located on the Eastern Suburb of New York City, the town of Smithtown is home to approximately 115,000 individuals (as of 2010). First founded in 1665 under the name of Smithfield, the town is said to have been formed through the cooperation between a Native American chief and an American settler named Richard Smith. Legend says that the land upon which the town is built was gifted to him after he rode the perimeter on the back of a bull; to this day, a statue of this bull can be found between New York State Route 25 (Jericho Turnpike) and 25A (St. Johnland Road).People can pay a visit to the Smithtown Library. Otherwise, there are also two parks that people can stop at the Sunken Meadow State Park and the Avalon Park and Preserve are among the most commonly visited. Numerous different transportation options are also available in the town.
