Setauket is a location on Long Island that is defined as simply being a census-designated place. However, despite this, it actually offers quite a rich and interesting history. Setauket had a population of just over 15,000 individuals, as of 2010. The name for the region comes from the original Indian owners of the land, the Setalcotts. Subsequently, to being colonized in the earlier years of the region, there was a great deal of wartime activity at Setauket. At the time of the American Revolutionary War, it played a fairly notable role as a regional center of activity. In more modern times, Setauket has a number of different amenities and places to stay. The region offers a number of privately owned B&Bs, as well as some hotels. Setauket is best known for its sights and landmarks, including the historical society; the Neighborhood House; the Old Field Point Lighthouse; and the old Presbyterian Church.
