Periodontal Care

Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is an inflammation and irritation of the gums. This could include both gingivitis and periodontitis. This inflammation is the body’s response to bacterial infection in your gums. If found early, periodontal disease can be easily treated through improved oral health care.
● Gingivitis – common irritation of the gums that can often be treated with proper oral healthcare. Signs of gingivitis include swelling of the gums and blood when brushing or flossing.
● Periodontitis – this is a more serious irritation of the gums that could lead to tooth loss if not treated properly. Signs of periodontitis include increased bleeding, gum recession, and changes in positioning of the teeth.
There are a few ways that gum disease can be treated. First a foremost, proper oral health care is essential. Be sure to brush properly, floss, and use fluoride in both toothpaste and mouthwash. You should also go to the dentist every six months to ensure that your teeth are in top shape, and so that your teeth can be cleaned by a professional. Your dentist may recommend more serious procedures, such as tooth replacement, if damage is too severe.
